Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics – Inspiration Information: Not all but many of the tracks struck me as “single file”. That’s the phrase that popped into my head when listening to this album, and at first I dismissed it. But the feeling remained, so I explored it, and it makes sense to me. The music is moving in single file, like one instrument following another, snaking along a ridge, each sound picking up where another leaves off, expanding or even changing the theme that went before it, and the percussion holds it all together in a loose affiliation.
