USA, 1967, hard bop / soul jazz

The Cannonball Adderley Quintet – Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!: Most of the time, jazz is a cerebral thing for me, but this one gets me a little emotional. It’s got so much soul, so much proper feeling, not just in the music but also in the crowd interactions. Everyone in the venue is on the same page, so the soul and jazz blend perfectly. It’s like you’re sitting in jazz church. If you’re not a jazz fan and still think the genre is boring after listening to this, I promise you the next drink I serve you won’t have cyanide in it.
