Egypt, 2021, avant-folk

Maurice Louca – Saet El Hazz (The Luck Hour): Is someone crushing sand on wood with a rolling pin? Cranking a rusty gearbox with the hope of giving it life once more? Gritty ambient “aimlessness” births liquid harps and the tolling bells of buoys. I love how this Egyptian-Lebanese experimental exploration can be at once so earthy and yet so evocative of the sea. Claustrophobic and ever inward-turning motion suddenly snapping and giving way to borderless expansion. According to the artist, this is not an album of six tracks but rather a long-form composition in six movements.
