France, 2021, dark folk / indie rock

Bacchantes – Bacchantes: Without the tight female polyphonic chanting vocals, this album wouldn’t have grabbed me, but I admit I’m a sucker for vocals like this. Female, foreign, “freaky”, folky? Yes, please, on all four counts. The complex, multi-part rhythms in the vocals make this recording a wonderful addition to my rotation. Overall, a refreshing take on the stale indie rock genre.
Oh, can even dark folk salvage indie rock?
