USA, 1951, big band
The LP 12″ record was a new thing, only two years old, when the Duke recorded this album, and based on what I’ve read, he took advantage of the format by reworking these four pieces to fit, two to a side. The manacles fall off, giving Ellington room to explore. Like stepping out of a cramped room into the great outdoors, this album is a breath of fresh air. And the vocals of Eve Duke…so sultry and relaxing, like a bubble bath.
