Georgia, 1992, Abkhazian folk, polyphonic chant

Polyphony is the distinctive trait of this folk music hailing from Abkhazia, a disputed region on the Black Sea in northwest Georgia. Basically it’s a bunch of dudes singing in rich, manly voices, and every once in a while there is a soloist, an older male with a strong yet fragile voice (I know it sounds contradictory, but it works). Gorgeous.
