USA, 1973, singer-songwriter / piano blues

How many times have I heard this album by this point? It’s like seeing the face of an old friend, getting a bit misty-eyed, and enjoying a warm hug from him. This whole album is an embrace. And he’s got stories for you..all the things that happened since last you met. He’s got an eclectic style to his storytelling, too, one you never get tired of hearing. He’s just as comfortable going acoustic guitar as he is at sitting behind the piano and plinking out the blues. But Waits is at his best once he’s got a few drinks in him and his music turns slowly like an inebriated carousel.
The album is best enjoyed with a bit of spirits, too, I’d say.
