Opus Posth Ensemble / Dmitry Pokrovsky Folk Ensemble – Night in Galicia: An intoxicating blend of simple yet profound vocals, violins, cellos, and double bass, this album, being the music of Vladimir Martynov and the lyrics of Velimir Khlebnikov, is the untamed snow-covered soul of Russia. Whenever someone asks me what kind of music I like, I play for them without comment the first track of this album. If they react in any way that resembles a “what the fuck is this?” or “turn it off!” attitude, I reply that unfortunately I cannot discuss music with them since we lack a common frame of reference.
