Germany, 2006, neofolk / dark folk

Darkwood – Notwendfeuer: This is delicate, warm dark folk of the German variety, and though I prefer the Scandinavian variants of the genre, the judicious, sparing use of atmospheric, lonely horns and hints of martial percussion on this record are a nice touch.

  1. I, too, put the Scandinavian dark folk ahead of the German, bu the German does feel real and credible, unlike most English/American iterations.
