USA, 1997, indie rock

Modest MouseThe Lonesome Crowded West: The most amazing thing about this band is the fact that they can be so cool and rock out so well all while the lead singer has a lisp. Well done! That’s an amazing tightrope act. I liked this album the first time I heard it, but what sealed it in my mind as perhaps the greatest indie rock album of all time is the last track, the epic “Styrofoam Boots / It’s All Nice on Ice, Alright”, a sprawling song that sounds much longer than its seven minutes. Anyway, the riffs are catchy, the melodies memorable, and the lyrics are clever and fresh with each re-listen.
